Sulekha Naidu, a truly versatile actress, is on her way to becoming one of Hollywood's leading Indian talents. She moved to Los Angeles from Austin Texas where she studied economics at the University of Texas. Born in Lubbock and raised in Odessa Texas, Sulekha knew what she wanted to be. "In a way I definitely feel like I am living a dream, I may not be where I had in mind but I'm a lot further than I ever expected."
Sulekha's parents came to Odessa Texas 30 years ago. They were also pursuing a dream. Sulekha's father Dr. Jayaram Naidu came to the United States with expectations of fulfilling a prominent career as a physician as well as being able to give his family the things he did not get growing up in his small village. "My dad always makes my brother and I aware that life back home was never as easy as we have it now." Sulekha's parents were able to teach her the importance of hard work as well as the importance of giving back. "I chose this profession because it would be extremely hard and definitely test my ability to achieve and I want to open doors for other South Asians."
After leaving Odessa Texas upon graduation, she studied acting at Yale University. She later enrolled at Pepperdine University majoring in Theater and Businesss Administration. Sulekha also carries a masters in Interior Design from Parsons School of Design.
Today, Sulekha has been in films and tv shows like One Night Stand, with Wesley Snipes and Nastassja Kinski and Seinfeld. She has also produced a short film called Badger. She was the production coordinator for the Bollywood Blockbuster Kaante and has recently produced and starred in Waking Dreams with Sakina Jaffrey and Navid Negahban.
Sulekha is currently based in New York. She is focused, driven and serious about the craft of acting. "There is a huge shift happening amongst South Asians in this country. We are no longer just physicians and engineers. "What better place to show the influence of my upbringing and culture than through my work". As challenging as it may seem I'm having the time of my life!
